Look Before You Leap

I just got off the phone with a company that provides me a service for which I pay $600 each month. Ok, so what do they consider a modest amount? I called them and found out that to them a modest amount was 8-10%; they weren't sure yet. I don't know if their definition of a "modest amount" struck me wrong or if I was just ...

How An Immigrant With Just a Few Canaries Builds a Vast Fortune

by: Geoff Ficke  In the 1920's Germany was in tatters. The formerly great empire was dismantled, the powerful army humiliated by its defeat in World War I and the population starved, cold and living in despair. Businesses that had been successful before the war were decimated by the outcome. There was no way to earn a living. For many Germans the only reasonable option available to pursue a better life was to immigrate to America.  Before the outbreak of World War I, Max Stern had operated a ...

Negotiating and Sales Skills Are Critical

When I first started getting active in creative real estate, my skill set at negotiating was very weak. I had done the telemarketing thing for American Express as a financial planner and had studied and learned a few techniques. On the surface one might think that would be a perfect tie-in to talking to sellers about their properties and their financial situation. I can promise you it wasn't. Yes, I did pick up asking general sales techniques like neverasking close-ended ("yes" or "no" answers) ...
